Narayana is the name of God in His infinite all-pervading form. It is also one of the names of Vishnu. This mantra bestows mercy and goodness through infinite and unconditional love. Repetition of this mantra assists with liberation from ignorance and limited thinking, it restores balance and confers peace, power and prosperity.
Om Namah Shivaya invokes Lord Shiva who is known as the destroyer. But he is also the restorer. Although there are many interpretations of the mantra, one of the more popular is to invoke Lord Shiva’s destructive powers to disintegrate everything within us that no longer serves and that keeps us separate and small and to restore our sense of wholeness and completeness so that we can return to oneness and holiness. Because of the mantra’s power to destroy the illusion of separation and restore wholeness, we use it often in our Ascension Breathing breathwork sessions. But it works just as well as background music to read by, relax to or even meditate.
